Biography & Archives

Henk was born in the Netherlands in 1940 and spent the first part of his life there.  In 1952 he emigrated with his family to South Africa.  After 27 years he returned to the Netherlands and in 1984 he moved to England.  He is primarily a self taught artist, although he studied for one year at both the Bill Ainsley School of Art and the Johannesburg Art College.  The paintings below give examples of how his career as an artist developed.

Henk's paintings are in many "official buildings" in Holland.

His work has been sold by Bonham's, Christie's and Sothebys.

Meerkats

His paintings are owned by private collectors in South Africa, Holland, the U.K and especially America.

Bootlaces

Throughout his career he has shown great diversity.

Stripes

"Stripes and "Three's a Crowd", a painting of ostriches, are published by Rosenstiel's.

Three Zebras

Another example of his zebra paintings which have proved popular.

Dove

"Oils" is Henk's main medium but he also works in Pastels.

White Dove

This painting was selected for the Leigh Yorkey Woodson Art Museum, Birds in Art exhibition in 2001 and the Not The Turner Prize.

Henk

Henk is a regular Artist in Residence at Nature in Art Twigworth, Gloucester.
